Jen’s biggest area of focus is mental health awareness and advocating for the help we desperately need for people in her riding of New Maryland-Sunbury and in the rest of our beautiful province.
Jen Smith was born in Oromocto but was raised in rural New Brunswick – she is a proud Geary girl – by parents who both worked as provincial civil servants. Jen was born a fighter – something she attributes to having two older brothers who made her a little rougher around the edges. She and her family spent their time outdoors and went hunting and fishing while growing up.
Jen pursued her education when her children were toddlers, then went back to university when she was in her thirties. Her passions are derived from sociological perspectives. Jen is a staunch defender of the underdog, including trans women and women of color, the LGBTQ2+ community, to which she belongs, and visible and non-visible minorities, the poor and homeless, and the vulnerable.
Jen’s biggest area of focus is mental health awareness and advocating for the help we desperately need for people in her riding of New Maryland-Sunbury and in the rest of our beautiful province. She has been heavily involved in both provincial and federal politics for a number of years. It was her involvement with another party, and the lack of transparency, accountability, and truth, that forced her to reconsider her allegiances and discover the Green Party of New Brunswick. Jen looks forward to being a force for change and bringing our communities to a place where we can all find success, not just the elite.
